After School Information

The program will begin August 24, 2021.  After school is from 3:00- 4:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  You will be responsible for picking your child(ren) up promptly at 4:30pm.  Any time your child is not going to attend after school, please send a note, otherwise they will be directed to stay for the tutoring.

The program will provide a small snack and a drink for each child and then class time will begin shortly after 3:00pm.  The focus will be reading and math.  Students are expected to behave and participate.  Students with continued behavior issues will be asked to leave the after school program.

Student enrollment is limited to the number of teachers we have who agree to teach after hours.  Once we fill up, a waiting list will be started.

2021-22 Virtural School Options

Washington County will not offer the Innovative Learning Option for the 2021/2022 school year.  Students who are currently enrolled in this option will have several options for next year.  They may:

  • Return to the home zoned school for traditional instruction  Students will be automatically enrolled in this option unless the school is notified by a new school or the district home school contact.

  • Washington Virtual K12  (

  • Washington Virtual Franchise (

  • Florida Virtual Full Time  (

  • Home School  (WCSD office - 850-638-6222/Becky Dickson)

K12, Virtual Franchise and FLVS Full Time all provide instruction with a certified teacher, follow the district calendar and offer a diploma.  They require a copy of a birth certificate, up to date immunization and residency verification in order to enroll.  The deadline for enrollment in these virtual schools is July 16, 2021.  Students are encouraged to remain enrolled through the end of the semester.

Home School leaves all instructional decisions to the parent and does not offer a high school diploma.  Once students are enrolled in Home School their home school is notified and they are withdrawn from their previous school   Home school enrollment is open at any time and students are permitted to return to their home zoned schools at any time.

Kindergarten and VPK Registration begins April 5, 2021

Kate M. Smith (VPK & Kindergarten) and Vernon Elementary School (VPK & Kindergarten) will begin Registration on April 5, 2021 for the 2021-2022 school year.  Registration packets will be available in the School Office.  All forms and documentation is required. We do encourage the online option below

If you have a new student (NOT previously enrolled in Washington County Schools) you may choose the “Enroll Now” option located at  and to complete the online registration form. 

***Parents/guardians of returning students will need to:  

  • Log into the Parent Portal.  
  • Go to the student's information box and click on "Form Summary." 
  • Complete the Student Information Update/Returning Student Form under Available Forms.

VPK openings are limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Please see office staff for more details.

Children starting VPK must be 4 years of age on or before September 1, 2021. Children starting Kindergarten must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2021.

You must provide:

Ø  Certified Birth Certificate (not hospital copy)

Ø  Florida Immunization Record (can be obtained at location shots were received…i.e. Health Dept. or Doctors office.

Ø  Florida Physical (must be dated within one year of first day of school)

Ø  Early Learning Coalition Certificate (VPK Students ONLY)

Ø  Social Security Card (optional)
